About the Course
Whitby Golf Club is a clifftop course set between Whitby and Sandsend, with wide coastal views and an exposed position above the North Sea. Founded in 1892, the club has played at its current Upgang location since 1895.
The par-71 layout combines open fairways with changes in elevation, natural slopes and coastal wind that can alter the difficulty from one round to the next. The course is not excessively long, but accurate driving and careful club selection are important when the breeze strengthens or shots finish on uneven ground.
Whitby rewards golfers who keep the ball in play and adapt quickly to the conditions. Its clifftop setting provides plenty of character, while the exposed holes and varied lies ensure the course offers a stronger test than its yardage may suggest.
