Why add FootWedge to your home screen?
FootWedge is a Progressive Web App, which means it can work like an app without needing to come from the App Store or Google Play.
Once it is added to your home screen, you can open it from an icon just like any other golf app. No typing the web address every time. No digging through browser tabs before a round.
The main idea is simple: get FootWedge one tap away before you reach the first tee.
This is useful if you are using it for scores, rounds, friends, course information or anything else you want quickly while you are out playing.
Before you start
You need to open FootWedge in your phone browser first.
For most people, that means:
Safari on iPhone
Chrome on Android
Chrome or Edge on desktop
Make sure you are on the correct FootWedge website before adding it. If you add the wrong page, your shortcut may open the wrong screen.
Installing FootWedge on iPhone
On iPhone, FootWedge needs to be added through Safari.
Step by step
Open Safari and go to the FootWedge website.
Tap the share button at the bottom of the screen. It looks like a square with an arrow pointing upwards.
Scroll down the share menu and tap Add to Home Screen.
Check the name says FootWedge, or rename it if needed.
Tap Add in the top right.
FootWedge should now appear on your home screen like a normal app icon.
If you cannot see “Add to Home Screen”
A few things can cause this:
You are not using Safari
You are inside an in-app browser, such as Instagram, Facebook or X
The page has not loaded properly
You are viewing the wrong part of the site
The easiest fix is to copy the FootWedge website link, open Safari manually, paste the link there and try again.
Installing FootWedge on Android
On Android, Chrome is usually the simplest option.
Step by step
Open Chrome and go to the FootWedge website.
Tap the three dots in the top right corner.
Look for Add to Home screen or Install app.
Tap it.
Confirm the name and tap Add or Install.
FootWedge should now appear with your other apps.
“Add to Home screen” vs “Install app”
Android can show slightly different wording depending on the phone and browser.
Both options do broadly the same thing. They create a FootWedge icon so you can open it quickly.
If the site is available as a full PWA on your device, Android may treat it more like a proper app. That means it can open in its own app-style window rather than inside a normal browser tab.
Installing FootWedge on desktop
You can also install FootWedge on a laptop or desktop if you use it before or after rounds.
This is handy for checking previous rounds, reviewing stats or looking at course information on a bigger screen.
Chrome
Open FootWedge in Chrome.
Look near the right side of the address bar for an install icon.
If you see it, click it and confirm the install.
If you do not see it:
Click the three dots in the top right
Go to Save and share
Choose Install page as app or a similar option
Microsoft Edge
Open FootWedge in Edge.
Click the three dots in the top right.
Go to Apps.
Choose Install this site as an app.
Confirm the install.
FootWedge should then open in its own window and may also appear in your Start menu or taskbar.
What changes after installing it?
The main difference is speed.
Instead of opening your browser, finding the tab and loading the site from scratch, you tap the FootWedge icon and go straight in.
Depending on your phone and browser, FootWedge may also feel more app-like because:
It can open without the normal browser address bar
It has its own home screen icon
It is easier to find before or during a round
It keeps the golf side of things separate from your normal browsing
That matters more than it sounds. On the course, nobody wants to stand there fighting with tabs while the group behind is waiting.
Does it use storage on your phone?
Yes, but usually not much.
A PWA stores some data so it can load faster and behave more like an app. It is not the same as installing a large game or a full native app.
If you ever want to remove it, you can delete it like a normal app shortcut from your home screen.
Removing FootWedge from your home screen
If you change phone, add the wrong page or just want to remove it, the process is simple.
iPhone
Press and hold the FootWedge icon.
Tap Remove App.
Choose the option to remove it from your home screen.
Android
Press and hold the FootWedge icon.
Drag it to remove, or tap the remove/uninstall option depending on your phone.
This does not delete your FootWedge account. It only removes the shortcut or installed app from that device.
Common problems
It opens in the browser instead of like an app
This can happen if FootWedge was added as a basic shortcut rather than installed as a PWA.
Try removing it and adding it again from Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android.
I added the wrong page
Remove the icon and open the correct FootWedge page in your browser.
Then add it again.
I cannot find the install option
Use Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android.
Avoid opening FootWedge through social media apps or messaging app previews. They often use built-in browsers that hide the proper install option.
The icon has not appeared
Check your other home screens or app drawer.
On some Android phones, the icon may be added to the app list rather than directly onto your current home screen.
Best time to install it
Install FootWedge before you get to the course.
It only takes a minute, but doing it in the car park with weak signal is asking for bother. Add it at home, open it once and make sure it loads properly.
That way, when you need it before a round, it is already there.
